Intro to working out at home

Many people think that they have to go to a gym to be able to strength train and therefore don’t do it at all as it can be very time consuming to get to the gym 2-3 times a week.

However, exercise can be very simple and you can train the whole body very efficiently and with a lot of variety with just the body as weight or with simple equipment. And we have lots of equipment both at home and in nature. Did you know that a simple water bottle can be a weight? And a regular staircase can be used for a lot.

You might wonder how? In this blog you will every week learn about different exercises, equipment, how to set up a workout and program, how to set smart goals, food and much more. Welcome!!

So, what exercises and what type of training is best for a home workout? One of the benefits of home workouts is that it can be so varied. Depending on your goals, equipment available, time, etc., the training can be varied to suit your needs. I often get questions if it’s possible to lose weight and / or build muscle by just working out at home. And the answer is YES, absolutely!!!

Well-known exercises such as Push-ups, Squats and Pull-ups are three exercises that are great and that come back in many of the workouts at No Gym No Problem, but you will learn so many more and variations on these as well.

Myself, I try to keep my work outs as varied and fun as possible, and one of my absolute favorite workouts is HIIT.

HIIT is a high-intensity workout with as little rest as possible. With a constant high pulse, the benefits are many. I will write much more about HIIT in the next blog post.

Whether you exercise at home, outdoors or at the gym, it is very important to warm up the body to avoid injuries and to perform better. You can below find a good warm-up that takes 4 minutes only.

In these crazy virus times, many gyms are closed and many people prefer not to go to a gym. But even during ”normal” times, there are many reasons for working out at home instead of joining a gym.

To end this first post I would like to list some of the benefits (and there are many) of working out at home.

  1. You don’t have to pay any membership fee.
  2. You never have to queue up for an exercise or weighs.
  3. You can listen to your favorite music – without headphones.
  4. If you have kids at home, you can train at the same time as you look after them. Maybe they can join.
  5. You can workout anytime and anywhere (at home, in the office, outdoors).
  6. You avoid the travel time.
  7. Without the gym machines, the training is very functional, varied and effective with complex movement patterns. You will be able to perform so much better in life.
  8. You can dress however you want. PJ’s, shirtless.
